For far too long, powered wheelchair users have had to give up comfort, dignity, and independence just to get on a plane. Air 4 All is a game changing step toward fixing that.
Developed by PriestmanGoode in collaboration with Flying Disabled and SWS Certification, Air 4 All is designed to allow powered wheelchair users to remain in their own wheelchair for the entire flight. No unsafe transfers. No damaged mobility equipment. And crucially, no loss of seats or revenue for airlines.
From my perspective at AbleTravels, this is exactly the kind of innovation the travel industry has needed for decades; solutions that respect disabled travelers and work for operators.

How Air 4 All Works

Air 4 All uses a secure installation system similar to ISOFIX/LATCH standards found in passenger vehicles. Both the aircraft seats and wheelchairs are designed to lock safely into place, allowing powered wheelchairs to be certified for flight while integrating seamlessly with existing airline seating.
When wheelchair access isn’t needed, the seats function just like any other airline seat. That means airlines keep their cabin layouts and brand consistency, while passengers with reduced mobility gain a safer and more dignified way to fly.

Why This Matters

The traditional approach to air travel for wheelchair users has been broken. Forced transfers are not only uncomfortable and undignified—they’re risky. Every year, countless wheelchairs are damaged due to poor handling, leaving travelers stranded or unsafe at their destination.
Air 4 All directly addresses these issues by:
• Enabling powered wheelchair users to fly without leaving their own chair
• Creating smoother boarding and disembarking experiences
• Reducing damage to mobility equipment
• Supporting independence, dignity, and confidence when traveling
This project also launches on the anniversary of the U.S. Air Carriers Access Act, a reminder that access isn’t optional—it’s a civil right.

Designed for the Real World

The system has initially been developed for narrow body aircraft with a 2+2 configuration, allowing up to two powered wheelchairs per row. The consortium is also working with Sunrise Medical to identify which power chairs can safely be certified for flight and to develop future standards across the industry.
What’s especially powerful about Air 4 All is how it was created: with direct input from the disabled community, alongside designers, certification experts, manufacturers, and airline partners. That collaboration matters.

Looking Beyond Aviation

Air 4 All is patented and designed to extend beyond air travel. The long term vision includes adapting this system for rail, metro, and other forms of public transportation—opening the door to true, end to end accessible journeys.
